Country Living June 2014 – Start your dream business feature

I feel so privileged to be featured in this month’s Country Living. It has always been an inspirational magazine that I have aspired to and am myself, inspired by. When I lived in China, family would send it out to me and I would pour over the pages dreaming of one day living back in the UK somewhere in our beautiful countryside.

We had a great time back in the depths of March trying to make the shop look Summery for the June issue. We spent a lovely day with Amanda Howard who wrote the piece. We talked a lot (5 hours… she’s a great listener!) and it still amazes me just how much she managed to cram into the piece. She really took away with her what we are all about here at The Old Haberdashery.

Day 2 was spent with Sussex based photographer Alun Callender, who brought the sunshine with him and captured the shop and its contents in such a beautiful way. It was like a masterclass in photography and I learnt a lot about how to diffuse natural light. And as someone who likes to dabble in photography myself, I hate having my own picture taken. I think these are photos that I will definitely be able to show the grandchildren.

A few weeks back whilst tidying up my workroom at home, I came across a mind map that I had probably written back in late 2011 when I was formulating ideas for the shop. At the bottom written in bold were the words ‘ Crazy Goals’ and listed below was this phrase…’Get featured in Country Living’.
